Paul Anthony
Sydney-born Paul moved to London when he was 23 and lived there for the next 28 years, now he resides in Athens and has been there since 2016.
Before starting in the tourism industry in 2000, he worked for many years in various hospitality positions with the first and most memorable being at a well known theatre in Islington, London where he started meeting all sorts of interesting characters and really started feeling like a Londoner. Eventually progressing to restaurant management, the having of a real job with odd hours meant that there was little time for travel, so he started working on a backpacker network going around Europe in different loops every 2 weeks. Moving onto touring companies in 2006, specialising in the Iberian peninsula, Italy and the Balkans, he switched to Cruise Directing on the river ships of Europe in 2016 while also still doing a few short and long haul tours.
Paul loves to show people the world and share his knowledge of the places the cruise or tour visits. Of particular interest is the local knowledge, things that won’t be seen on the internet or mentioned in a guidebook and showing his guests the insider’s view.
On his down time, he is reading on his sunny terrace, walking, cycling on his beloved Dutch “oma-fiets” and swimming 4-5 times per week. Photography, particularly of nature and design is of big interest. Plants are the main focus of his nature photography and he enjoys architecture of the mid 20C from the 50s to 70s along with art-deco and art nouveau of the 20s & 30s. Many of these photos adorn the walls of his flat.
Paul still has many plans for personal travelling and very much enjoys researching and co-ordinating these holidays. He says there is still a lot of the world to see and he enjoys escaping Europe and immersing in a completely different culture when the opportunity arises.
